Advocate Inclusive Education via AVCON Distance Learning System
|
Since 1997, Education Bureau had implemented Pilot Project in Inclusive Education, which aimed at providing disable students with regular learning environment to study with normal students. It helps discovering their potentials and assists them in integrating into the community. For this few years, there were obstacles in advocating the project. For example, teachers from mainstream schools lacked the training of special education; and there were very scanty of related facilities which were necessary for special education. |

In the flourishing era of information technology, merging the mature technology of data transmission into inclusive education is likely to resolve the above problem. In May 2009, Lee Kau Yan Memorial School and Princess Alexandra Red Cross Residential School reformed the tradition learning model of inclusive education. They were unprecedented to hold joint event among mainstream school and special school via AVCON Distance Learning System. In the past, disable students were difficult to visit mainstream schools for inclusive learning activities because of the physical disability. Teachers should prepare special cars to convey those students which might increase their workload. Thereby, these schools noticed the features of Distance Learning System that it eliminated the geographical barrier by fiber technology, and help schools building up an online exchange platform. With the basic AV facilities, students from both schools were able to discuss with each other and share learning methods via the screen. It was direct and convenient. Disable students were able to join inclusive learning event without travel and the schools were unnecessary to worry the issue of facilities and transportation arrangement, which greatly enhance learning efficiency. |
